The former ballerina turned internationally acclaimed explorer.

Using exploration to help achieve a more sustainable future.

Sophie is a former ballerina turned internationally acclaimed modern explorer. Sophie’s exploration combines an interest in two of the most significant topics of our time: environmental change and health. Sophie is a Fulbright Scholar, the 2017 New Explorer of the Year, and an environmental consultant. Her expeditions have taken her to the streets of Managua to the mountains of Madagascar and everywhere in between.

As the Founder of AquaAid International, Sophie worked with some of Central America and Sub- Saharan Africa’s most remote villages  establishing sustainable sources of clean drinking water. Building upon her environmental health non-profit background, Sophie currently consults across corporations and geographies to bring clarity and results to complex environmental challenges. Sophie is a Fulbright Scholar and holds a Bachelors in Environmental Science and Global Public Health from New York University, a Master of Health Security from the University of Sydney, and a certificate in Global Health and Security from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government.

Sophie is an avid sailor, has sailed across the Pacific Ocean, and holds a 200-ton captains license. At the time of certification, she was the youngest female to ever obtain a 200-ton MCA Yachtmaster Captains License. Her passion for adventure and discovering indigenous ways of life has led her undertake descents of uncharted rivers in Madagascar, desert transect treks in Namibia, and ethnographic research in the Republic of Vanuatu. Sophie’s work has been featured by National Geographic and the United Nations. Sophie is passionate about storytelling and encouraging people to achieve the extraordinary - though the methods vary, the message is the same: connecting people to transcend boundaries and help build a more sustainable future.

Sophie is an International Fellow of The Explorers Club, Post-Graduate Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and Youth Representative to the United Nations. When not exploring Sophie lives between Sydney, Australia and New York City.
